Telfar outerwear is coming and it will be everywhere

If there’s one thing that’s going to set Twitter fad on fire, it’s another Telfar drop. The brand’s perpetually out-of-print vegan leather tote bags have become as recognizable a status symbol as a Dior saddle bag or Fendi baguette, but at a more accessible price point. So no, it wasn’t surprising when, last Wednesday, fans of the brand started freaking out about the quilted tote bags the label announced would be releasing on Monday. But this is only part of the brand’s latest venture. Telfar has collaborated with Moose Knuckles, the famous Canadian brand of outerwear. Forget to hang a Telfar bag; get a Telfar bomber trimmed with fur.

The collaboration is structured in two parts. First, a 17-piece collaboration with Moose Knuckles, which launched in full November 1 on the Telfar and Moose Knuckles websites. (The bags launched today and are already sold out.) Second, Telfar’s online collection of five basic outerwear styles, made using Moose Knuckles’ industry expertise. “The way fashion is structured is like ‘Fashion is your other jacket.’ But we want it to be your jacket, ”explains Babak Radboy, Creative Director of Telfar. “We’ve had this language of outerwear for years, but making outerwear takes time. Getting it right can take generations. Moose Knuckles have been making outerwear for three generations in Winnipeg. They’re done right, they understand the materials.

The collection as a whole has a Y2K vibe, with trims and puffs of fur and elastic waist bombers. Most of the pieces are covered with a quilted Telfar logo, taking inspiration from both the logomania and the down jacket trend. The basic styles of the Telfar collection are made of nylon, while the Moose Knuckles pieces use fur and leather.

As with their tote bags, the goal for Radboy and founder Telfar Clemens is to achieve a level of ubiquity. “I want everyone to have this coat,” Clemens said. “I want you to be confused, like you brought the wrong coat home from a party because everyone has that coat.” One of the ways to achieve this saturation is to keep the price affordable for a luxury brand. The basic styles for Telfar – a long coat, a short coat, and a pea coat – are between $ 400 and $ 550. “It is achievable. Even if it’s complete, it’s achievable, ”says Clemens. For those with more to spend, the Moose Knuckles collaboration includes logo-embossed fur-trimmed pants for $ 750 and a long quilted leather coat for $ 4,300.

Photos of the Moose Knuckles collaboration are already on Telfar’s website for virtual window shopping ahead of the November 1 noon release. “Getting a coat is sometimes very difficult,” says Clemens. “We wanted a coat that everyone is going to have for a while.
