British model and designer Alexa Chung has a long-standing relationship with traditional and lifestyle brand Barbour, and as we move into the coat season, they’ve collaborated once again on a collection of outerwear for Fall 21. .
A line that exudes the spirit of adventure, this range is inspired by the form and function of outerwear worn by 20th century explorers, and so, not only do the coats protect against the elements, they offer also a good dose of vintage style, à la Chung.
When it comes to silhouettes, the classic ALEXACHUNG aesthetic has been applied to a range of styles, from wax jackets to casual ’70s knee-length coats, short and longer quilted numbers. As for colorways, expect shades of country green that rub shoulders with classic navy blue, retro camel, and a new shade of soft zinc (think pale lilac and gray). Expect iconic Barbour details too, in the form of a tartan lining, contrasting cord necklaces and brass-colored hardware. Autumn-winter just got better.
“We were keen to approach the design process for this particular collection with a metaphorical suitcase filled with unique inspiration and fresh ideas, all conceived during containment. We started by deepening the image research phase and opted for , this time to take the road less traveled, move away from what might be considered the more “traditional” benchmarks used in previous seasons, such as equestrian and outdoor activities, and enter a new realm of possibilities. American aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart ready to take off in her pilot bomber, a vintage firefighter jacket with aged brass clasps and an old-fashioned female astronaut in a zinc-hued ensemble, which has all inspired the silhouettes, material details and color palette found in this collection.
My favorite pieces? I’m glad you asked. The Tonal pip in the aforementioned zinc colourway will soon be mine and I can’t wait to wear it as I perform a rain dance with my hoodie under the gray skies of England. The new dark camel colourway makes a spectacular entry on the Jackie; an oversized silhouette offset by a small tie detail, the perfect raincoat to grab someone’s attention. This collection was born out of a deep desire for travel, adventure and discovery as well as an underlying need for protection – which we hope this collection provides to you. Fasten your seat belts, we’re out of here. ” Alexa Chung, Creative Director of ALEXACHUNG
